Going Faster - Engine Modifications (Mitsubishi 4G63)

The Mitsubishi 4G63 turbo 2.0-liter motor is an amazing high-tech power plant with a huge capacity for increased performance. Straight out of the box, it generates 200/220/240 horsepower, but simple bolt-on modifications can increase that to over 400!

To unleash the increased power from your turbo-charged motor, you need to allow the turbocharger to breath more freely, on both the intake and exhaust sides of the motor. Generally, you should start from the ends of the system and work inward. When you have opened up the intake and exhaust as much as you can, you can switch to a larger turbocharger for even more power. Then there are additional ways to add power to the motor, including electronic add-ons. Note that none of these modifications involve taking apart the motor itself – most of these add-ons can be put on by an amateur mechanic.

All horsepower figures in this page are measured at the crankshaft (as opposed to at the wheels). Horsepower figures we quote here are approximate; as always, “your mileage may vary.”

Stage I - 300 horsepower

These modifications are the first steps to getting more power from your 4G63T.Doing all of these modifications can increase horsepower on a 1G car from 195 to around 300

The modifications generally work best in the order they are presented here. If you do them in a different order, you may find no improvement until you perform the earlier upgrades.

Here’s the Stage I performance checklist, in order:
-Mechanical Boost Gauge
-High-Flow Air Filter
-Compressor Bypass Valve Upgrade (1995+ only)
-High-Flow Cat-Back Exhaust
-High-Flow Catalytic Converter/Off-Road Pipe/Or just remove it
-High-Flow Downpipe
-Boost Controller
-Fuel Pump Upgrade
-Intercooler Pipe Upgrade
-Exhaust System Porting
-Turbo Upgrade (1995+ and AT cars)
-High-Performance Clutch

Stage II -375 Horsepower

Congratulations! Your car now has around 300 horsepower, and (in AWD form) does 0-60 in under five seconds, and can run the quarter mile in under 13.0 seconds.

If it's just not enough, follow the Stage II modifications checklist for 375 horsepower or more.

-HKS Vein Pressure Converter (VPC) or Similar
(The HKS Vein Pressure Converter changes the way the engine measures air flow. It eliminates the restrictive factory MAS (Mass Air Sensor) in favor of a much-less-restrictive absolute pressure sensor. The VPC can easily add 30 hp)
-Turbo Upgrade (if not already done)
-External Wastegate (for race turbo)
-Fuel Injector Upgrade
-Front-Mount Intercooler
-Extrude-Honed/Custom Intake Manifold

*ALL THESE SETTING ARE TESTED AND PROVEN AT THE TIME*
*RESULT MAY VARY
